Nic Dunlop

Nic Dunlop brings the photographer’s eye, the writer’s depth and the filmmaker’s sense of narrative to Asia’s difficult histories. His discovery of Khmer Rouge prison chief Comrade Duch led to The Lost Executioner and an award from Johns Hopkins University for excellence in international journalism. Brave New Burma grew from twenty years photographing life under military rule.

He co-directed HBO’s Emmy-nominated Burma Soldier. His photographs and writing have reached audiences worldwide, including readers of Granta and The Observer. He has also taught photography and writing for universities and humanitarian organisations. Patient, searching and attentive to ordinary lives, his work connects history with the people still living in its shadow.
